A cool and modern place to stay and study...
A new chapter was written in De La Salle Health Sciences Institute Library’s history with the opening of the brand new Romeo P. Ariniego MD Library on January 3, 2010. The new library replaces the former Medicine Library at the basement of A.King Building and the Satellite Libraries at the 6th floor of Wang Building, which had been serving DLSHSI students, faculty members, hospital and academics staff, and other visiting researchers since 1994. In 2008, when Bro. Gus Boquer unveiled the construction plans, the news was welcomed by the whole academic community as the previous library was almost bursting at the seams coping with the yearly increasing campus population.

Located conveniently next to the Academic Center for the Health Sciences (Wang Bldg), the new library building looks set to become another focal point for the entire DLSHSI population.

Aptly called the Romeo P. Ariniego MD Library, the building sits on one of the high points in the institute, flanked by greenery on its side and trees both at the front and rear. The building itself brings in natural sunlight and adds a touch of nature and breath of fresh air to the entire surroundings. The library is a modern three-storey building that houses the collection of the four colleges.

Library Sections

Located on the first floor are the Medicine Section and the baggage depository area. The specialized allied health collection is placed on the second floor as well as the Reference Section where requests and issuances of referrals and payments for fines and fees are done.

The Periodicals Section, which houses the foreign and local serials, theses and dissertations, are housed on the third floor. The general education collection is temporarily placed in this floor.

The Technical Services Section, where processing of library materials are done, and the Office for the Library Chair is located also on the 3rd floor. The Electronic and Multimedia Resources Section shall be placed at the end part of the same floor to meet the demands of library users for computer and online searching facilities.

Since its formal opening on March 2010, students and faculty members have been streaming in eagerly to check out the new place. Aside from an extensive range of books and journals, the Romeo P. Ariniego MD Library collection also has new materials such as the electronic books and DVDs.

To celebrate further that monumental occasion, the very first National Book Week Celebration for DLSHSI shall be held on November 22-26, 2010.
