January 14, 2019 | 1:36 pm

Doctors and CM students are very privileged as Dr. Raymond Escalona shared the depth of his knowledge about chronic disease and his role in changing the lives of his patients thru Functional Medicine last October 9, 2018 at De La Salle Animo Center.

In his opening message, Br. Gus L. Boquer stated “The nutrition we take is who we are. It is who we are. It is a statement to the kind of life we want to live.” Br. Gus added that his statement also goes with the health professionals who cannot advise their patients what to do because even they don’t practice proper diet and right nutrition.

Dr. Raymond Escalona is the Director for Medicine Education for Life Science Institute who goes around Southeast Asia as a spokesperson to educate practitioners about the power of lifestyle change and truly understands why patients keep getting sick.

In his 40-minute talk, Dr. Raymond discussed what is happening in our region and pushed for understanding the root causes of chronic disease and eradicating these through the practice of Functional Medicine.

Dr. Raymond emphasized that Functional Medicine is not a subspecialty but a perspective that anyone can follow. He stated also that it is a system’s basic biology model that empowers patients and practitioners to work together to achieve the highest expression of health by addressing the underlying cause of the disease.

He also showed the audience his patients who used to have severe conditions but was given a chance to live their lives full of hope again after they underwent functional medicine.

With his dedication to this perspective of medicine and his effort in transforming lives in this current generation, he then received at the end of the talk the certificate of appreciation awarded by DLSMHSI President Br. Gus Boquer, Vice Chancellor for Hospital Operations Dr. Roberto Espos, and Vice Chancellor for Academics Dr. Juanito Cabanias.

The event ended with Dr. Conrado Crisostomo’s closing remarks leaving an impact in everyone’s heart and mind.
