In celebration of the Annual National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, De La Salle Health Sciences Institute’s DLSUMC (De La Salle University Medical Center) will hold a number of lay forums on July 15, 16, 18, and 19, 2013 at the hospital’s Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Various discussions on arthritis, osteoporosis, stroke rehabilitation and the Magna Carta for the Disabled will be discussed by Rehab Medicine experts Dr. Ramon Antonio Sarmiento, Dr. Myrna Estrada, and Dr. Rosita Nardo-Estabillo.

The 2010 Census of Population and Housing has identified the CALABARZON as the region having the most number of persons with disabilities at 193,000. With this backdrop, De La Salle Health Sciences Institute (DLSHSI) reaches out to the public with health education exercises such as these to help the public understand the appropriate kind of care for PWDs. DLSHSI is also working with its alumni and friends to build a Center for Children with Disability in Cavite to provide much-needed services especially  for poor children with diabilities.

Aside from the forums, the participants may also avail of free bone screening and consultations with DLSHSI’s licensed Physical Therapists.
