True to its commitment to help the church in its mission to serve the poor, DLSMHSI’s Lasallian Formation and Social Action partnered with Parokya ng Mabuting Pastol to sponsor a year-long feeding program for the children of Blessed Ville Subdivision, Brgy. Sampaloc 2 in the City of Dasmariñas. And on January 19, 2019, the commencement of the feeding activity was preceded by a healthy talk from DLSUMC’s Chief Dietician Criselda Joy Dela Cruz, RND who shared meal planning tips for healthy eating with the parents of the children beneficiaries of the feeding program.

For the parents, the most revealing part of the lecture was Dela Cruz’s 10 tips on how to get kids to eat healthy:
1. Eliminate/ remove junk food from their diet.
2. Make sure they are hungry (and not full of junk) during meal time
3. Let them eat in small portions only in between regular meal times.
4. Don’t pressure your child to eat the vegetables you provide. Let them decide.
5. Let them eat as much or as little as they want as long as they eat healthy food.
6. Be a role model. You too should eat vegetables.
7. For babies, foster familiarity as early as possible by allowing them to taste various vegetables.
8. Eat vegetables with dips and sauces.
9. Make the veggies easy and fun to eat (use snack hacks).
10. Get kids involved with cooking vegetables.

She added that parents must know the desirable eating pattern of their children and they must understand why children eat as they usually do to set up an environment that promotes a healthy appetite.

LFSA Director Lorenzo Alvin T. Capio, PhD shared that this lecture serves an opportunity to know many things in eating healthy food and in preparation for next week, “The rest of the week kayo po ang gagawa kaya po bago tayo magfeeding program ay may ganitong proyekto para bigyan kayo ng kaalaman para paguwi sa bahay ay masustansya pa rin ang pagkain.”

One of the participants, Concepcion La Fuente Argarin mentioned that this lecture gave her knowledge on the importance of healthy food because she admitted that one of her challenges is to make her grandchild eat healthy food.

The feeding program will run every Saturday from January 26 – February 23 and on Sundays from March 3 to December 2019. For every feeding day, LFSA will be soliciting sponsors who will finance the food that will be prepared for the children. For those who want to sponsor a feeding day, you may call LFSA at local 1393.
