International expert on tuberculosis diagnosis Prof. Madhukar Pai, MD, will be at De La Salle Health Sciences Institute to deliver a lecture on TB diagnostics on July 3, 8:30am at the De La Salle Villarosa Convention Hall. Prof. Pai’s lecture will focus on converting new diagnostic technologies into actual health impacts.

 

Prof. Pai is an associate professor of epidemiology at McGill University, and associate director of the McGill International TB Centre. He also holds honorary professorship positions at the University of Cape Town and Stellenbosch University in South Africa; and Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. He serves as a Consultant for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. He has previously served as co-chair of the Stop TB Partnership’s Working Group on New Diagnostics, and on the Coordinating Board of the Stop TB Partnership. His research is mainly focused on improving the diagnosis of TB, with a special emphasis on India. He is a recipient of the Union Scientific Prize from the International Union Against TB and Lung Disease, the Canadian Rising Star in Global Health award from Grand Challenges Canada, and the Chanchlani Global Health Research Award. He has over 150 peer-reviewed publications, and serves on the editorial boards of five international journals.

 

Prof. Pai is holding the talk on the invitation of DLSHSI’s Vice Chancellor for Lasallian Mission and Linkages Dr. Charles Y. Yu who sits with Prof. Pai as comember in the steering committee of the International Standards for TB Care. The talk is part of DLSHSI’s Jubilee Lecture Series featuring international health care experts, presented by the Lasallian Mission and Linkages Division, in cooperation with the Research Division’s Center for Tuberculosis Research.
