Senior High’s Primo batch graduates

August 29, 2018 | 2:04 pm

The pioneer batch of DLSHSI’s Special Health Sciences Senior High School has graduated and is ready to brave college to pursue their dreams of becoming health sciences professionals. Class 2018 produced 41 honor graduates who reaped the fruits of their hard work during their graduation ceremonies on June 1, 2018 at the De La Salle Animo Center. In addition to the honor awards, the high school also recognized eight Loyalty Awardees among 343 new Lasallian graduates.

For their pioneer batch, the Special Health Sciences Senior High School chose a big name for its first commencement speaker – Administrator of the Lasallian East Asia District in Hong Kong and Secretariat and Communications Center for the Lasallian Brothers in Asia, Br. Francisco “Sockie” V. De La Rosa VI, FSC.

Br. Sockie delivered his speech by discussing the two basic issues which are preserving democracy and valuing life through the character of Thanos and Captain America of Avengers: Infinity War. For Thanos, the universe is overpopulated so he wants to sacrifice some for the good of many while Captain America considers that all life is valuable, precious and imbued with dignity. Br. Sockie posited that “the solution of Thanos seems to be easier but it leads to a dead end, while Captain America and the Avenger’s solution is way difficult because it requires values absorbed from years of study and practice, and learning from mistakes.” For graduates who were wondering why he was talking about this lead character in a fiction film, Br. Sockie explained that “fiction is the mirror of reality, so allow me to lead you from the same space of fiction to the more dangerous world of the reality of which we live. As you move now into University and the world of work there are two very broad but basic issues that I think we as Lasallians have a stand on, first preserving democracy and second valuing life.” Finally, he reminded the audience that as Lasallians they are taught to make the right choices.

Meanwhile, Director IV of DepEd Region IV-A Diosdado M. San Antonio, Ph.D. was guest of honor and encouraged the graduates to live up to their promise as he believes that DLSHSI nurtures individuals to become leaders. He also invited the graduate to pursue their purpose by remembering what the word PRINCE stands for — Proactive, Resource-oriented, Intelligent, Network-building, Credible, and Empowered. He added that “A leader always takes the initiative and doesn’t wait for things to happen because if they believe what they think is worth learning, they proceed.
