A few days after Super Typhoon Yolanda ravaged her home in Tacloban City, one-month old Maria Mila Ragot was suffering from neonatal pneumonia due to extreme heat. She, along with her mother and other relatives, left Tacloban and stayed  with a relative in Imus, Cavite, while her father stayed in Tacloban to help in the rehabilitation of their community.

With their resources fast dwindling, Mila’s mother Prosperity went to the Central Office of the Department of Education to inquire if she can claim her teacher’s salary so she can bring her daughter to a doctor. Prosperity was able to talk to DepEd Secretary Br. Armin Luistro who referred her to the De La Salle University Medical Center so that immediate medical attention can be afforded to young Mila.

Mila is now at DLSUMC under the care of two specialists, Pediatric Immunologist Dr. Vicky Biñas and Pediatric Cardiologist Dr. Ruzenette Hernandez.

Mila is now on her way to recovery and continues to be a great source of joy as her family deals with the aftermath of the disaster.
