The Center for Basic Biomedical Research’s Animal Research Unit supports excellence in research and instruction by ensuring the humane and responsible use of laboratory animals.

Its mission is to:

  • Guarantee quality care for all animals used in research and teaching.
  • Ensure that scientific procedures involving animals are consistent with existing laws and regulations.
  • Act as a resource unit for laboratory animal care and use, and best practices for animal studies ARU’s support services include, but are not limited to animal anaesthesia, post anaesthetic monitoring, surgical preparation, post-surgical monitoring, and drug/compound dosing (gavage, injection).
