Library Director Efren M. Torres, Jr. MLIS has recently appointed three (3) coordinators tasked to coordinate and supervise key library units. Changes in the educational landscape, such as the ASEAN integration and the Kto12 curriculum, bring opportunities and challenges. These prompt the library to adjust its goals, strategies, and operations and to fill roles that are necessary to respond to these changes. The appointments are effective from June 2016 to July 2017.
Raquel P. Samar is the Coordinator for Technical Services. She is responsible for supervising the collection development and cataloging and coordinating the operations and policies affecting Technical Services and other units. She became part of the DLSHSI family in 2006 and served as the librarian of the CMRT Satellite Library and Periodicals Librarian. Few years later, she became the Cataloging Librarian. She finished her Master of Library and Information Science from Polytechnic University of the Philippines in 2012. Her previous experience includes working as a school librarian. She is interested in technology in libraries and collection assessment.
Marlon G. Gado is the Coordinator for Special Health Science High School. His post requires him to oversee all matters pertaining to the Special Health Science High School and coordinate matters that affect the Special Health Science High School and the other units. He had been with the Institute for 8 years and served as librarian of the CMRT Satellite Library and the General Education and Filipiniana Section. Later, he transferred to the Medicine Section to become the Medical Librarian. He earned his Master of Library and Information Science from University of the Philippines Diliman in 2015. Before joining DLSHSI, he worked for a college library and an architecture library. His research interests include library planning and special collections.
Zipporah M. Dery is the Coordinator for Reader’s Services. She oversees the reference and circulation services of the library and coordinates matters involving the Readers’ Services and the other units. She had been the Reference Librarian for 5 years since she came on board the Institute in 2010. She earned her Master of Library and Information Science from University of the Philippines Diliman in 2010. She used to work in a corporate archives and in a business outsourcing firm before joining DLSHSI. Her research interests include information literacy, reference service, and bibliometrics.
Under the direct supervision of the Director for Library Services, the new roles are expected to support the organization’s strategic thrusts and operational goals while keeping in mind the high quality of service that Lasallians deserve.
