Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with 3 Track: Professional, Medicine and Specialized Biochemistry (2 years) Premed Track (SBPT)

The BS Biochemistry program at DLSMHSI is a unique program designed to produce chemists who specialize in biochemistry. Graduates of this program shall have a wide array of career opportunities, particularly in the allied health-related industries and research. We offer three tracks: the Professional Track, the Medicine Track, and the Specialized Biochemistry Premed Track (SBPT).

Graduates of the 3-year Professional Track are eligible to take both the Chemist and Chemical Technician Licensure Examinations, while those of the 3-year Medicine Track and the 2- year SBPT are eligible to take only the Chemical Technician Licensure Examination.

Graduates with professional licenses can work as analytical or laboratory chemists in industries with biochemical applications (i.e. pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, environmental analysis, quality control, agricultural products research, hospitals, etc.) In addition, a registered chemist can also work in crime laboratories as a forensic chemist.

Graduates without professional license may also pursue careers in non-laboratory jobs, such as science communication, technical writing, marketing and management, product sales, chemical information services, health and safety, patents, project management, etc. (CMO No. 47, s2017).

Graduates can work in the academe as college instructors/professors and do basic and applied science researches in chemistry, tenured positions in the academe require further graduate studies (MS or Ph.D.) in biochemistry, chemistry, or other allied fields. The licensure examination for teachers (LET) is required if graduates want to pursue teaching in secondary education

If graduates could meet the grade and NMAT requirements, they can pursue the Doctor of Medicine program of DLSMHSI and other medical institutions in the country.

The Specialized Biochemistry Premed Track (SBPT) is a two-year premed track that requires students to maintain the grade requirements per subject, the recommended Grade Weighted Average (GWA) by the program, and an NMAT score as prescribed by the DLSMHSI College of Medicine Program.

Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology

The BS in Biotechnology, a 3-year degree program in the broadest sense, is the manipulation of cellular and molecular processes of living organisms to develop useful products, processes and services. Biotechnology is a collection of technologies that capitalize on the attributes of cells, such as their manufacturing capabilities of biological molecules (DNA and proteins) to their useful application such as genetic engineering. Biotechnology employs a wide range of technologies including recombinant DNA technology, cell and tissue culture, monoclonal antibody production, stem cell technologies and bioprocess engineering to be able to solve problems in pharmaceutical, medical, industrial, agricultural and environmental fields.
