Academics welcomes its new members to the A-Team

Vice Chancellor for Academics Juanito O. Cabanias, LPT, PhD has appointed the new administrators who shall be part of the A-Team effective August 1, 2021. Among the new appointees are 2 College Deans, 3 Directors and 1 Special Assistant to the VCA.

 

Nancy D. Delos Santos, RN, MAN

Dean, College of Nursing

 

Ms. De Los Santos is a graduate of BS Nursing from St. Paul College, Manila and MA in Nursing from De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute. She is currently finishing her PhD in Educational Management in De La Salle University-Dasmariñas. She practiced her profession as a Nurse and held supervisory posts in hospitals in the Philippines and United States. She spearheaded the initial Mother-Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative accreditation and was part of the core team that established the Nursing Service Department of Our Lady of the Pillar Medical Center, Imus City in 2002-2004.

She joined DLSMHSI in 2004 as a faculty of the College of Nursing (CN) and was appointed Level IV Chair. Her expertise in simulation made her a valuable member of the CN Simulation Core Group and was engaged in training not only the CN faculty but also the nursing school administrators and faculty in CALABARZON on the effective use of simulation in healthcare education. Her experience in clinical education and high regard for quality enhancement made her a fitting choice as Chair for Policies and Standards of the Academic Quality Management from SY 2018-2019 to SY 2020-2021. Ms. De Los Santos’ experience in academic and clinical settings is complemented by her administrative skill and consciousness to quality standards, which enable her to take on her new role as the Dean of the College of Nursing.


Louie Fernand D. Legaspi, RPh, MHSS

Dean, College of Pharmacy

 

Mr. Legaspi earned his BS Pharmacy from the University of the Philippines Manila and Master of Health Social Science from De La Salle University. He worked in private and government hospital settings before coming on board in DLSMHSI in 2016. Aside from holding a faculty post, he was appointed to Chair positions in the College of Pharmacy and was a member of collegiate and institutional committees. Mr. Legaspi is actively engaged in research and development of learning objects. He has presented and published his research in international conferences and Scopus-indexed journals. He has prepared modules on the practice and assessment of pharmacists. He also holds positions in professional organizations, including Chair of the advocacy team of the Philippine Pharmacists Association.

Mr. Legaspi wears many hats, which provide a solid base for his academic, professional, administrative and linkages competencies – all relevant to lead the College of Pharmacy as its new Dean. He currently pursues his PhD in Pharmacy in St. Louis University, Baguio City.


Jose Isaak M. Calamlam, LPT, MA

Director, Special Health Sciences Senior High School

 

Mr. Calamlam is a Licensed Professional Teacher and Registered Chemical Technician. He taught chemistry in high school and conducted board examination review sessions for the physical sciences. He joined DLSMHSI in 2010 and was appointed as the founding director and academic chair of the Special Health Sciences Senior High School. He was actively involved in the development of the chemistry laboratory of DLSMHSI and acted as the point person for the development and marketing of the Science and Technology and Science Experiences Work-Textbook Series. He also co-authored Kto12 compliant science work-textbooks and teachers’ guide/manual. With his professional experience and competency as an educator and administrator, he takes on a familiar yet unique role as Director for the Special Health Sciences Senior High School in a hybrid learning environment.

Mr. Calamlam holds a BS in Chemistry for Teachers and MA in Science Education with Specialization in Chemistry from the Philippine Normal University.


Ma. Teresa A. Sigua, MA

Director, Center for Humanities and Social Sciences

 

Ms. Sigua holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Science from the Philippine Normal University and a master’s degree in History from the De La Salle University and currently pursues PhD in History in University of Santo Tomas. She joined DLSMHSI in 2005 as a faculty member, held collegiate and institutional committee memberships and assumed the administrative post of Chair, General Education Department in SY 2018-2019. Her passion for arts and culture brought rich experiences for her students here and abroad. She spearheaded the National Arts Month Celebration of the College of Humanities and Sciences in 2018-2020 with art exhibits, seminars, workshops and performances. She was also invited as a visiting professor at Kansai University Osaka, Japan in 2018 in line with their ASEAN Studies program to promote Philippine heritage and culture.

Ms. Sigua brings almost 20 years of experience in education, administration, research, history, and culture to lead the newly formed Center for Humanities and Social Sciences as its Director.


Zipporah M. Dery-Cruz, RL, MLIS

Ms. Dery-Cruz holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Library and Information Science from the University of the Philippines Diliman. She worked as a librarian, archivist and content engineer before joining DLSMHSI in 2010. She held administrative posts in the Library and committee memberships in the Institute. She worked as project lead for key library projects which became part of the core library services, including the Information Literacy Program for students and Research Productivity Series. She also partners with other librarians to perform research in collections, library spaces and information literacy.

Her experience in library operations, administration and innovative services enables her to take on the responsibility as the new Director for Romeo P. Ariniego, MD, AFSC Library.


Efren M. Torres, Jr., RL, MLIS

Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Academics

 

Mr. Torres brings over 18 years of experience as librarian, administrator and researcher in corporate and academic settings. He joined DLSMHSI in 2004 and later became the Library Director in 2010. He was appointed to various chair and member posts in institutional committees, such as the Academic Service Faculty Manual Revision and Academic Publication Review Board. He led the transformation of the physical spaces and technology-rich services of the Library, which led to the Library bagging the Innovative Library Design Award in 2019. He is also active in research, having presented in local and international conferences and publishing in Scopus-indexed journals.

Mr. Torres’ academic background, administrative experience and work performance have prepared him to take a new role in a broader context where he would engage in planning, implementation and monitoring of the key projects of the Academics as the Special Assistant to the Vice Chancellor for Academics. He earned both his undergraduate and master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of the Philippines Diliman and currently pursues PhD in Educational Management in De La Salle University-Dasmarinas.

Pharmacy and Nursing alumni post commendable performances in recent licensure examinations
Graduates of the College of Pharmacy performed well in the June 2021 Pharmacist Licensure Examination. DLSMHSI recorded an overall passing rate of 96.43% and was hailed as the Top 4 Best Performing Pharmacy School in the Philippines. Hats off to the new Lasallian pharmacists and to the College of Pharmacy!
