DLSHSI appoints Principal of the Special Health Sciences High School

WELCOME ABOARD! Professor Jose Isaak Calamlam is the Principal of the De La Salle Special Health Sciences High School effective AY 2016-2017.

Months from now, the De La Salle Special Health Sciences High School (SHSHS) shall open its doors to incoming senior high school students with a special curriculum designed to prepare them in the health science professions. To provide direction to this new program, Professor Jose Isaak Calamlam has been appointed as the Principal of SHSHS effective June 1, 2016 untilMay 31, 2017.Professor Calamlam attained his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry for Teachers and Master of Arts in Chemistry Teacher Education from the Philippine Normal University. He taught at Ateneo de Manila University before transferring to De La Salle University Dasmarinas and De La Salle Health Sciences Institute. He has been with the Institute for 5 years.The Academics Division welcomes Professor Calamlam and looks forward to the the opening of SHSHS next year.
College of Humanities and Sciences holds outreach program; College of Pharmacy celebrates World Pharmacists Day; Comprehensive Community Health Training Program conducts PIME The College of Humanities and Sciences and its faculty members, non-teaching personnel, and College Assembly Officers visited the Augustinian Sisters Servant of Jesus and Mary at Tagaytay City on October 10, 2015 for an outreach program. Donations include medicines and other personal hygiene items for the abandoned children.The College of Pharmacy celebrated the World Pharmacists Day on September 25, 2015 with a deworming activity titled “Pharmacy KKB Program” (KKB-Kami Kontra Bulate), in cooperation with the Lasallian Mission and Linkages Division, Philippine Pharmacists Association Cavite Chapter, and Gawad Kalinga. Seventy-five (75) kids ages 6-17 from GK Hugo Perez and God’s Heavenly Treasures Imus participated in the event. Seven (7) adults who accompanied the children ages 18-42 also received medical consultation.

The Comprehensive Community Health Training Program conducted Planning, Implementation, Monitoring, Evaluation (PIME) at Brgy. Narvaez under the project titled “Oplan Bawas Timbang Upang Altapresyon ay Mabawasan”, Brgy. Batas-Dao under the project titled “Bigkis Sikap” and Brgy. Kabulusan under the project titled “Hypertensyon ay Iwasan, HATAW NA!!! All these projects were implemented in Alfonso, Cavite.

PAASCU visits College of Medical Radiation Technology for a preliminary assessmentThe College of Medical Radiation Technology (CMRT) had a very successful PAASCU Preliminary Visit on October 15-16, 2015. Results of the evaluation are expected to be released soon. Upon receipt of the results of the evaluation, CMRT shall eventually prepare for the Level I Accreditation.PAASCU, or Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities, is recognized as an esteemed accrediting body for academic programs that meet excellence in education.
Members of Academics Division gear up for a busy NovemberThe Academics Division Semestral Performance Review is scheduled on November 4, 2015. Collegiate and Departmental Administrators, Academic Operations Committee Members, selected ASP, and Non-teaching Personnel are invited to attend the assembly.On the other hand, all non-teaching personnel under the Academics Division would want to mark November 7, 2015 on their calendars for the Academics Division Non-Teaching Personnel Development Program. Featured topic is ”Living Out Professionalism.”

Finally, the Faculty and ASP Development Program shall be held on November 10, 2015. All full-time faculty members and ASP are enjoined to attend. Part-time faculty members are invited as well. The seminar shall feature the topic “Living out the Lasallian Guiding Principle: Renewal of Commitment.”

All programs shall be held at the De La Salle Villarosa Convention Hall.

Updates from the Fifth Academic Operations Committee (VCA Council) Meeting held on October 15, 2015

  1. Set-up of Alumni Virtual Service Station in front of the Alumni and Relations Assistance Office (ARAO). In cooperation with the Office of the Registrar (with much appreciation), the smart TV unit linked online is a creative initiative of ARAO which shall be able to cater to virtual services with little staffing needs given the lack of personnel and budget restrictions. Services include: Alumni ID Issuance, Credentialing Assistance (application certifications, transcript requests linked to OSRA platform at the Office the Registrar and Academic Documentary Requests), Homecoming Great Package Request, and Professional Advancement Opportunities Application
  2. Appointments of Mr. Sigfredo B. Mata, RPh as Chair for the Interdisciplinary Science and Research Unit under the Center for Basic Biomedical Research, Mr. Richard L. Pineda, RPh as Chair for the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, and Dean Alicia P. Catabay, RPh, MSc, PhD as one of the members of the Editorial Board for Research Publication of DLSHSI
  3. Official membership of first and second year College of Medical Laboratory Science students to the Philippine Society of Medical Technology Students
