The Center for Intellectual Property was founded in June 2020 through the leadership of Dr. Juanito O. Cabanias, the Vice-Chancellor for Academics and Bro. Augustine Boquer, President of DLSMHSI. The office was created to ensure the protection and generation of intellectual property of the institution. Madelyn Gabrieles, an Assistant Professor of the College of Rehabilitation Sciences, was appointed as the Director of the Center for Intellectual Property, responsible for the implementation of the institute’s goals including the intellectual property plan and operational frameworks, achievement of objectives and deliverables in line with the broader Institute’s strategic plans, examination of patents and protections, expansion and updating the policies, investigating infringement on patents, and ensuring the protection of DLSMHSI’s IP especially during technology transfers in compliance with the accreditation and statutory standards. The Director initiated the creation of an Intellectual Property Committee which is composed of representatives from the different DLSMHSI services such as Research, Academics, Lasallian Mission, Linkages and Advancements, Shared, and Hospital Services. The Intellectual Property Committee will serve as overseer in the implementation of the IP Policy in the institution and intervene and conduct dispute resolutions for internal and external conflicts whenever necessary. Currently, the Center for Intellectual Property is under the leadership of Dr. Antonio Ramos, Chancellor of the DLSMSHSI.
