Luke 5,1-11

Date posted: August 31, 2022

September 1, 2022 (Thursday)
Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Luke 5,1-11
While the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the word of God, he was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret.
He saw two boats there alongside the lake; the fishermen had disembarked and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, he asked him to put out a short distance from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” Simon said in reply, “Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command, I will lower the nets.” When they had done this, they caught a great number of fish and their nets were tearing. They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come to help them. They came and filled both boats so that they were in danger of sinking. When Simon Peter saw this, he fell at the knees of Jesus and said, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.” For astonishment at the catch of fish they had made seized him and all those with him, and likewise James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners of Simon. Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” When they brought their boats to the shore, they left everything and followed him.

Reflection
Jesus always reminds us, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” We are always afraid of what will happen to us because in our minds it is implanted already that our decisions now will affect our future. Human beings are always busy fighting for the demands and standards of life, we tend to forget that Jesus is waiting and hoping that we can still submit ourselves to him and to God’s plan. The Gospel today, reminds us that every day is a calling and challenge for us as Christians. Remember, the words of Jesus, “Do not be afraid”, in the world it is not always being alone. We work together, we trust, and we journey together following his footsteps. God has a plan and has promising abundance if we leave everything and followed him. How difficult for us to submit ourselves to the person who sacrificed himself for our own sake?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “the spirit of faith is a “spirit that allows one to search for God’s will in order to carry out his saving plan.” As Lasallians, All of us are called in His grace, all we have to do is to listen and follow his command so that we can all be
instruments of change in this world. Saint John Baptist de la Salle followed God’s ways through his faith and become God’s instrument in serving people. For this mission, we are all called to have the courage to follow in His footsteps, answer His calls, and repent for the sins that we have committed every day.

Prayer
Synod on Synodality Prayer
We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name.
With You alone to guide us, Make Yourself at home in our hearts;
Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it.
We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder.
Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions.
Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right.
All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever.
Amen.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
