Luke 5,33-39

Date posted: September 1, 2022

September 2, 2022 (Friday)
Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Luke 5,33-39
The scribes and Pharisees said to Jesus, “The disciples of John the Baptist fast often and offer prayers, and the disciples of
the Pharisees do the same ; but yours eat and drink.” Jesus answered them, “Can you make the wedding guests fast while
the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them, then they will fast in those days.” And he also told them a parable. “No one tears a piece from a new cloak to patch an old one. Otherwise, he will tear the new and the piece from it will not match the old cloak. Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins, and it will be spilled, and the skins will be ruined. Rather, new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins. (And) no one who has been drinking old wine desires new, for he says, ‘The old is good.'”

Reflection
As Filipinos, we have lots of traditions we have inherited from the previous generations. Sometimes, we used to follow things even though we don’t understand them. But the Gospel is telling us to reflect and go beyond in order to see the deeper meaning of those traditions. It must be clear to us that we follow because it leads us to have a closer relationship with God. Is there a tradition I used to follow blindly? What was that tradition?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “the spirit of faith is a “spirit that allows one to search for God’s will in order to carry out his saving plan.” As Lasallians, we are challenged to reflect on how God works in our lives and be able to realize how blessed we are to have a God who loves us unconditionally. Let us allow ourselves to live in the eyes of faith.

Prayer
Synod on Synodality Prayer
We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name.
With You alone to guide us, Make Yourself at home in our hearts;
Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it.
We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder.
Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions.
Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right.
All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever.
Amen.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
