Matthew 20,17-28

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Matthew 20,17-28
As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the Twelve disciples aside by themselves, and said to them on the way. Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests and the scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.”
Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee approached him with her sons and did him homage, wishing to ask him for something. He said to her, “What do you wish?” She answered him, “Command that these two sons of mine sit, one at your right and the other at your left, in your kingdom.”
Jesus said in reply, “You do not know what you are asking. Can you drink the cup that I am going to drink?” They said to him, “We can.” He replied, “My cup you will indeed drink, but to sit at my right and at my left, this is not mine to give but is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.” When the ten heard this, they became indignant at the two brothers. But Jesus summoned them and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and the great ones make their authority over them felt. But it shall not be so among you. Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant; whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave. Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Reflection:
The Gospel talks about Jesus’ destiny, what awaits Him when they arrive in Jerusalem. It tells us that our destiny is always an interplay of light and shadow, that is, victory and suffering. Let us be brave enough to ask our merciful Father to enlighten us and help us to be His instruments of Love, Peace, Mercy and Compassion. How do you see your suffering?

Lasallian Guiding Principle:
LGP states that, “As a member of a community, of the nation, and of the global village, Lasallian institutions must work in solidarity with people and institutions that share the conviction in denouncing and working towards the elimination of unjust practices…” We are challenged to be like Jesus who endured all the sufferings and receive death in order to redeem humankind. And as Lasallians, how willing are we to live this Lasallian commitment of zeal for service? Are we determined to do good, carry out our tasks and be of loving service to others?

Prayer:
Synod on Synodality Prayer

We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name.
With You alone to guide us, Make Yourself at home in our hearts;
Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it.
We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder.
Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions.
Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right.
All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever. Amen.
