Matthew 23,23-26

Date posted: August 22, 2022

August 23, 2022 (Tuesday)
Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Matthew 23,23-26
Jesus said: “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin, and have
neglected the weightier things of the law: judgment and mercy and fidelity. (But) these you should have done, without
neglecting the others. Blind guides, who strain out the gnat and swallow the camel! Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you
hypocrites. You cleanse the outside of cup and dish, but inside they are full of plunder and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee,
cleanse first the inside of the cup, so that the outside also may be clean.”

Reflection
Jesus frequently criticized the religious authorities of his day as being blind and hypocritical. Even though the Pharisees and scribes were supposed to represent the essence of religious life, they are the ones being criticized for their self-importance, pride, and self-righteousness. Their actions are regrettable because they place too much importance on outward appearances and disregard the fundamental principles of justice, mercy, and love. It makes sense why they punished Jesus by making Him suffer and die in retaliation. What are my internal paralysis that needs to be cleansed?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “The goal of social development interventions is to preserve and bring forth the fullness of life.” As
Lasallians, we need to become true to our faith and strive to be a symbolic pillar, living a pious life in our community. Let us allow ourselves as ambassadors of our faith in our family, community, and nation.

Prayer
Synod on Synodality Prayer
We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name.
With You alone to guide us, Make Yourself at home in our hearts;
Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it.
We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder.
Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions.
Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right.
All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever.
Amen.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
