Matthew 6:1-4

Date posted: June 17, 2020

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Matthew 6:1-4
Jesus said to his disciples: “Take care not to perform righteous deeds in order that people may see them;
otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father. When you give alms, do not blow a
trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets to win the praise of others.
Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.”

Reflection
In the gospel, Jesus warns His disciples not to be like the hypocrites who are fond of showing off. We don’t announce how generous we are. Generosity is recognizing that all the blessings came from God. It is meant to be shared and not just for personal satisfaction. “It is better to give than to receive,” we help
because we are called to help and does not expect anything in return. When was the last time we help
others out of compassion and love?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “Actions must always be life-affirming.” As Lasallians, who uphold core principles, we are God’s shepherds who value life. We respond positively and generously to those who belong to the
marginalized sector. So teach us to number our days, that we may present to You a heart of wisdom”
(Psalm 90:12). A community, composed of wise individuals, does waste time that passes by, instead, we
intend to use every single second to bring change in the world. Change can only happen when we start to
respect and value each other.

Oratio Imperata Against the COVID-19
God our Father, we come to You in our need to ask Your protection
against the COVID-19 that has disturbed us and claimed many lives.
We pray that You guide the people tasked
to find cure for this disease and to stem its transmission.
Protect the medical experts and healthcare personnel
that they may minister to the sick with competence and compassion.
We pray for those afflicted, may they be restored to health soon.
Protect those who care for them.
Grant eternal rest to those who have died.
Give us grace in this trying time to work for the good of all and to help those in need.
We implore You to stop the spread of this virus and to save us from our fears.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son
who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us!
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us!
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us!
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
