Matthew 9:10-13

Date posted: September 21, 2020

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Matthew 9:10-13
While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate
with him and his disciples. When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your
teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who
need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I
have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Reflection
This gospel talks about the calling of Matthew the tax collector, who for many would be considered
as a sinner. Sometimes, we become like him who urges to be above the others to keep our comfort
zones. But despite these iniquities, Jesus keeps on calling us to follow Him and surrender our life to
Him because of His great love for us. How can you change your life for the better?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
As stated in the LGP, the “spirit of faith allows one to discover God’s active presence in his Word, in
men and women, in the poor, in nature, in history, and in ourselves.” Faith isn’t just a notion that
some people hold onto in tough times. As Lasallians, we must embody the spirit of faith because it
will help us to get us through, illuminating the pathway in times of darkness, helping us to get through
weakness. For without faith, we are nothing.

Oratio Imperata Against the COVID-19
God our Father, we come to You in our need to ask Your protection
against the COVID-19 that has disturbed us and claimed many lives.
We pray that You guide the people tasked
to find cure for this disease and to stem its transmission.
Protect the medical experts and healthcare personnel
that they may minister to the sick with competence and compassion.
We pray for those afflicted, may they be restored to health soon.
Protect those who care for them.
Grant eternal rest to those who have died.
Give us grace in this trying time to work for the good of all and to help those in need.
We implore You to stop the spread of this virus and to save us from our fears.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son
who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us!
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us!
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us!
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
