Indeed there was no better way to celebrate a man whose life has always been dedicated to service to God and his fellowmen. Thus, on the occasion of his 75th birthday, DLSMHSI President Br. Gus Boquer FSC acquiesced to a grand birthday celebration because he was convinced that this would be a perfect opportunity for him to put a spotlight on his advocacy for the charity patients of De La Salle University Medical Center (DLSUMC).

Thus on November 13, hundreds of his friends gathered for a special celebration of the life of a man and gave generously to the endowment fund that he is building for the charity patients of DLSUMC.

“This is not about me. This is about our Lord and how we can make Him happy. Our Lord is happiest when we serve the people closest to Him- the lost, the last, and the least. We have many of them here at DLSUMC’s charity ward. They desperately need help so we need to help them. As Christians, we cannot turn away from such suffering. So I encourage everyone to contribute to this endowment fund that I am building for them. It doesn’t matter how much we give. No matter how small it is, it is a gift of love for them, for ouLord. I am committed to this, because I know this is what the Lord would want me to do,” said an emphatic Br. Gus.

Thus with full of faith in God’s generosity, Br. Gus has promised to tirelessly work on behalf of these patients. And in another celebration prepared for him by the DLSMHSI community, Br. Gus reminded everyone that what each of them does here at this institution is an opportunity to do God’s work, because they have been called to heal and save human lives.

“When you work in a special ministry for the Lord, there is no such thing as ‘I’m tired.’ You can change from your work assignment but you never stop serving that cause of what this is for. And I will never stop until I am able to see before my own eyes that all the facilities we would like to have will be here and especially in the hospital and for the doctors, staff, and nurses who make a difference in the lives of our patients,” said Br. Gus in his address to the community.

During the said event, Br. Gus also asked not to be presented with gifts, but instead to contribute to the endowment fund for DLSUMC’s charity patients, and to the Save Coins A Day and Save the World campaign in support of the Superior General’s mission fund.
