A delegation from De La Salle Medical and Health Sciences Institute (DLSMHSI), led by President Dr. Antonio B. Ramos, recently embarked on a series of important international engagements in the United States. The visit emphasized DLSMHSI’s commitment to enhancing academic collaborations and expanding its global network, particularly in the fields of healthcare and allied health sciences.
The DLSMHSI management team, including Dr. Naomi M. de Aro, Vice Chancellor for Academics; Br. Lawrence Aikee R. Esmeli FSC, Vice Chancellor for Lasallian Mission, Linkages, and Development; Dr. Ma. Cecilia D. Licuan, Dean of the College of Rehabilitation Sciences; and Prof. Monina G. Dimas, Dean of the College of Nursing, met with representatives from the University of Southern California (USC) in Los Angeles. This pivotal meeting focused on the future collaboration between the two institutions, with a particular emphasis on the Occupational Therapy program. Discussions centered on sharing best practices, faculty exchanges, and collaborative research projects to enhance the quality of education and training for future healthcare professionals.
During the trip, DLSMHSI renewed its longstanding partnership with St. Mary’s College in Napa Valley, California. This renewal pertains to collaborative programs in Nursing, Biomechanics, and Exercise Science, further reinforcing the academic ties between the two La Salle institutions. The renewed partnership aims to continue fostering academic exchanges, joint research efforts, and shared expertise in these critical fields of study, benefiting both students and faculty.
Another significant milestone was achieved as the partnership between DLSMHSI and La Salle University Philadelphia was officially sealed. Presidents Dr. Antonio B. Ramos of DLSMHSI and Dr. Daniel J. Allen of La Salle University signed the formal agreement, witnessed bythe Provost, Vice Chancellors, and Deans of both institutions. This partnership will focus on strengthening the Speech Pathology and Nursing programs at both institutions, creating opportunities for joint academic initiatives, student exchanges, and collaborative research aimed at advancing healthcare education.
In addition, DLSMHSI formalized a new partnership with Lewis University in Illinois, focusing on the Physical Therapy program. This collaboration aims to deepen academic ties through curriculum development, joint research, and professional development opportunities between the two institutions.
The DLSMHSI delegation also organized a series of meet-and-greet events with alumni in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Philadelphia. These gatherings brought together graduates from DLSMHSI’s Medicine, Nursing, Physical Therapy, and Occupational Therapy programs, fostering a sense of community and reinforcing the Institute’s connection with its global alumni network. Notably, these events also provided an opportunity to recognize the generous contributions of alumni donors who have supported scholarships and various projects that advance DLSMHSI’s mission.
This U.S. visit highlights DLSMHSI’s ongoing efforts to expand its academic footprint internationally while upholding its Lasallian values of service, excellence, and leadership in healthcare education. These new and renewed partnerships will significantly enhance the opportunities available to DLSMHSI students and faculty while enriching the global healthcare community through collaborative learning, research, and practice. Guided by the Lasallian tradition, the future of healthcare education at DLSMHSI looks brighter than ever.
