John 8:51-55

Date posted: April 2, 2020

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

John 8:51-55
Jesus said to the Jews: “Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever keeps my word will never see death.”
(So) the Jews said to him, “Now we are sure that you are possessed. Abraham died, as did the prophets,
yet you say, ‘Whoever keeps my word will never taste death.’
Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? Or the prophets, who died? Who do you make
yourself out to be?”
Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is worth nothing; but it is my Father who glorifies me, of
whom you say, ‘He is our God.’
You do not know him, but I know him. And if I should say that I do not know him, I would be like you a liar.
But I do know him and I keep his word.

Reflection
The word of God is our spiritual food. The Body of Christ, the eucharistic bread, is the Word made flesh. In
these tough times, we see on the FB posts that some are still creatively and safely (observing the social
distancing) attending the Eucharistic celebrations in the early days of this COVID-19 threat. Some say that
this gives them a calming effect, healing their troubled hearts and minds. That’s why some priests still
continue to say Mass. This is their way of going the extra mile. What ‘going the extra mile’ really means to
you these days?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
The LGP states that, “Zeal is the active expression of faith in gospel witness and service.” This kind of zeal
makes everyone a hero in their own little way. They don’t know but they are professing their faith when a
certain female doctor continues to do his part in this battle against COVID-19 even this means she could no
longer embrace her children while this threat continues. This is a demonstration of what being selfless is.

Oratio Imperata on the Threat of the COVID-19 (CBCP)
God our Father,
we come to You in our need to ask Your protection
against the COVID-19 that has disturbed us
and claimed many lives.
We pray that You guide the people tasked to find cure
for this disease and to stem its transmission.
Protect the medical experts and healthcare personnel
that they may minister to the sick with competence and compassion.
We pray for those afflicted. May they be restored to health soon.
Protect those who care for them. Grant eternal rest to those who have died.
Give us grace in this trying time to work for the good of all and to help those in need.
We implore You to stop the spread of this virus and to save us from our fears.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son
who lives and reigns with You,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us!
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us!
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us!
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
