Matthew 24,42-51

August 31, 2023 (Thursday)
Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 24,42-51
Watch therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the householder had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have watched and would not have let his house be broken into. Therefore, you also must be ready; for the Son of man is coming at an hour you do not expect. “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? Blessed is that servant whom his master when he comes will find so doing. Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. But if that wicked servant says to himself, `My master is delayed,’ and begins to beat his fellow servants, and eats and drinks with the drunken, the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will punish him, and put him with the hypocrites; there men will weep and gnash their teeth.

Reflection:
Are we ready to meet the Lord? As servants of our master he will be glad if we are consistent in doing our job even if we believe that he is prolonging his coming back. Sometime there are tendencies to backslide with our faith and to be more complacent in what we do in our life. We then say to ourselves, “life is short, let us enjoy life.” What might happen to us if we are caught unprepared? The challenge of our Gospel for today is to always be prepared both physically and spiritually as we await the second coming of the master, Jesus the Christ. (Neil Stephen G. Benter)

Lasallian Guiding Principle:
Our founder St. John Baptist De La Salle willingly prepared himself for Christ’s coming by doing His Holy Will. He responded to the educational needs of the poor boys France during his time. In every institution that he worked on there should be a courtyard where his brothers could rest and reflect. This is a clear manifestation of his love and respect for all life. He also prepared the young children for life by letting them understand that Jesus is the ultimate source of spiritual life really present in the Holy Eucharist. In the Lasallian guiding principles, we are challenged to follow the examples of our founder who followed the examples of Christ.

Prayer:
Synod on Synodality Prayer

We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name.
With You alone to guide us, Make Yourself at home in our hearts;
Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it.
We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder.
Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions.
Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right.
All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever. Amen.

St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.

St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
