Luke 10:1-9

Date posted: October 18, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Luke 10:1-9
After this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to come. And he said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and salute no one on the road. Whatever house you enter, first say, `Peace be to this house!' And if a son of peace is there, your peace shall rest upon him; but if not, it shall return to you. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages; do not go from house to house. Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you; heal the sick in it and say to them, `The kingdom of God has come near to you.'

Reflection
Why Jesus sent the seventy disciples in pairs? Jesus could have sent them one by one so that they could cover more ground thus the spread of the gospel would be much faster. But Jesus chose them to go in pairs to make it easier and faster for them. He wanted them to help each other for their mission. Jesus knows that doing the mission is not easy that is why He send them in pairs to work together and help each other as they face the different challenges of their missions. In our life sometimes we ask ourselves, why do we exist on this world? Is it only by myself only? Of course not! We exists because there is a reason and that reason is to help our fellowmen. We need to extend or spread to them the good news about Jesus. Feed those who are hungry, clothe those who do not have clothes and give hope to those who are losing hopes. That is one of the reasons why Jesus creates us to give to others.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
As stated in the LGP, “…the Spirit of Faith is a spirit that allows one to trust in God’s loving presence and providence when acting God’s will.” On today’s gospel, God wants us to have faith in him especially when we’re having a hard times in doing our mission and challenges in our life. Like the life of our founder, St. John Baptist De La Salle, he gave his wealth for the poor in France to provide them foods and he gave them proper education in educating the children. Because of his trust to the will of God and strong faith, SJBDLS succeeds to save those children and up to now lots of De La Salle schools was build helping lots of children all over the world who cannot afford to go to the schools.
