Luke 11, 37-41

Gospel: Luke 11, 37-41
After Jesus had spoken, a Pharisee invited him to dine at his home. He entered and reclined at table to eat. The Pharisee was amazed to see that he did not observe the prescribed washing before the meal. The Lord said to him, “Oh you Pharisees! Although you cleanse the outside of the cup and the dish, inside you are filled with plunder and evil. You fools! Did not the maker of the outside also make the inside? But as to what is within, give alms, and behold, everything will be clean for you.”

Reflection
In Jesus’ time, observing the law is strictly followed as the Pharisees are the religious leaders back then who set the rules. It was then Jesus who does not take the rules literally but instead, observed the underlying meaning of the tradition. He was referring to the spirituality and the inner goodness of the person. No matter how organized or clean the outside is, the inside of a person and his good acts are all that matters. The last statement of Jesus also tells us to be charitable persons and always surrender ourselves to render out service at times when it is needed by our fellow neighbors. What is important to you is it intention or outcome? Why?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
The Lasallian Guiding Principles states that “… In communion in mission; as a way of relating to others, it suggests openness to all persons and the desire to be brother or sister to all especially those in need, as a goal of mission, it suggests the unity that comes through reconciliation between God, human beings and creation.” This means we are encouraged to be open and to be able to reach to others, we need to relate ourselves to them especially the needy. Faith teaches us the value of reconciliation. It also emphasizes on the inter connectedness of us human beings to each other. Being the stewards of God’s creation, we are called to become good with our words, most of all to our actions that may affect our fellow brothers and sisters.

Prayer
Lord God, thank you for the gift of life. We are blessed every day because You are our great provider. With this Lord, may you also bless us the strength of the spirit to encourage us to extend open our eyes, mouth and our hearts. Extend our arms so that we may reach out to those who need it most. Also, remove temptations around us that may hinder us to show your divine love to others. Help us to stay in the right path guided also with the Lasallian principles. This we ask through Christ our Lord, Amen.

Lasallian Prayer for Peace
We pray to you, O Lord,
God of life and God of those who hope!
Listen to our prayer for the whole world:
For peace among all peoples,
For prosperity in all lands.
We pray to you that evil may be overcome
And that all wars may end.
We pray to You especially for the members
Of our Lasallian Family,
Who suffer from war, injustice and intolerance,
And for children and young people who are poor ad neglected.
We pray too, God, for peace in our lives;
In our towns, in our schools,
In our families and in our own hearts.
We pray for a peace that the world cannot give us.
We pray for a peace that will make us whole
And transform us into ambassadors of justice for Your sake.
Lord, give us Your peace! Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de la Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
