Luke 11:27-28

Gospel: Luke 11:27-28
While Jesus was speaking, a woman from the crowd called out and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that carried you and the breasts at which you nursed.” He replied, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”

Reflection
The gospel shows that actions always speak louder than words. There are so many cases where in we applaud God’s words, but we do not obey them. We simply hear them, give praise, and ignore it, or in worse cases, we disobey. God tells us that it is better to ‘do’ than ‘say’. An example of this kind of behaviour can be seen today, where most people will praise acts of generosity, let’s say, in social media. People will tell kind words about the good Samaritan, but will not do what they do. The gospel shows us that we should not only praise them, but also follow their lead.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows one to search for God’s will in order to carry out his saving plan.” St. John Baptist has dedicated his life in giving the poor good human and Christian quality education. As Lasallians with the same mission, we should continue his legacy and serve our mission given by God. For instance, this could be carried out in our day-to-day living by simply giving alms to beggars, or even offering food to the homeless. This will fulfill our identity as his students, but we must not do it because we are required to, but because it is what our hearts tell us to. By starting this change, we can inspire more people to carry out God’s saving plan.

Prayer
Lord, as Lasallians, we realize our mission given by You to help our sisters and brothers in need. Give us the strength to carry out what we need to do, and may we live out Your words through our actions and in everything we do. May we exemplify good Christian spirit and the Lasallian Guiding Principles. This we pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.

Lasallian Prayer for Peace
We pray to you, O Lord,
God of life and God of those who hope!
Listen to our prayer for the whole world:
For peace among all peoples,
For prosperity in all lands.
We pray to you that evil may be overcome
And that all wars may end.
We pray to You especially for the members
Of our Lasallian Family,
Who suffer from war, injustice and intolerance,
And for children and young people who are poor ad neglected.
We pray too, God, for peace in our lives;
In our towns, in our schools,
In our families and in our own hearts.
We pray for a peace that the world cannot give us.
We pray for a peace that will make us whole
And transform us into ambassadors of justice for Your sake.
Lord, give us Your peace! Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de la Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
