Luke 12:13-21

Date posted: August 4, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Luke 12:13-21
One of the multitude said to him, “Teacher, bid my brother divide the inheritance with me.” But he said to him, “Man, who made me a judge or divider over you?” And he said to them, “Take heed, and beware of all covetousness; for a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” And he told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man brought forth plentifully; and he thought to himself, `What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ And he said, `I will do this: I will pull down my barns, and build larger ones; and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; take your ease, eat, drink, be merry.’ But God said to him, `Fool! This night your soul is required of you; and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’ So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

Reflection
What are we storing in our life? Is it money, fame, pleasure, or power? The message of this Sunday’s Gospel reminds us to be satisfied for what we have and to learn how to share to our needy brothers and sisters. There are times that we are too focused on how we can acquire more until such time we realize that we cannot bring material things in the life to come. May we desire God alone as the one true treasure worth possessing above all else. Material blessings are meant to be used for God’s glory and for the good of others.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
As stated in the LGP, lasallians understand that genuine social development and fullness of life for everyone in God’s plan requires our institutions to fulfill our educational mission. This is to pattern our ways to the life of our founder St. John Baptist de La Salle who led the children of France to the fullness of their life through education. He clearly not stored money, fame, pleasure, and power. He invested good works intended for the salvation of the people he served during his time. May all lasallians follow our founder’s example.

One Commitment Prayer
Lord Jesus, You love us all and make us your brothers and sisters. You call us to follow you. You invite us to announce the Good News. Lord, grant us the courage to live our commitment. Teach us to go beyond our borders. Teach us to discover you in the lowliest. Teach us to see with the eyes of faith. Teach us to share our mission with all Lasallians throughout the whole world. We make this prayer through the intercession of Mary, Queen and Mother of the Christian Schools, and through the intercession of St. John Baptist de la Salle, patron of teachers. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
