Luke 17: 11-19

Date posted: October 13, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Luke 17: 11-19
On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices and said, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then said Jesus, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”

Reflection
When should we praise God? The gospel is all about those people who seek help from God because of their sickness or struggles in life that test our faith. The gospel tells us that no matter what we are facing right now in our lives, whether it is good or bad, we should never forget Him because whatever happens all of these is because of Him. We should never lose faith in Him because He will always guide and love us unconditionally, no matter who we are and what we have done.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
As stated in the LGP, “the spirit of faith allows one to search God’s will in order to carry out his saving plan.” In the gospel, the spirit of faith is the center core value that is being emphasized in the story. The gospel message for us on this day teaches us that being faithful to God will help us to become the person we want to be. Just like what St. John Baptist De La Salle did to those people in need, he aimed to help those children by giving them the education that they don’t have which St. La Salle believed that having education will help those children to become successful if they have given enough knowledge at their young age. The challenge given to us, Lasallians, is that during our stay or after we leave the University, what can we do for others that will help them to be the person they want to become? Can we help them emotionally, mentally, physically, spiritually or can we help them in any other forms?
