Luke 18:9-14

Date posted: March 21, 2020

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Luke 18:9-14
He also told this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous and despised others:
“Two men went up into the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood
and prayed thus with himself, `God, I thank you that I am not like other men, extortionist, unjust, adulterers,
or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week, I give tithes of all that I get.’ But the tax collector, standing
far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, `God, be merciful to me a
sinner!’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts
himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted.”

Reflection
The parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector is one great example that faith does not solely come from
following God’s customs and traditions. These particular verses remind us that there is there are things that
are more important than just doing what should be done. In this time of crisis, how can we be the best version
of ourselves?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
The LGP states that, “Zeal for service is a whole-hearted giving of oneself to the service of others, in gratuity
and generosity, in creativity and fortitude, in compassion and commitment.” St. John Baptist de La Salle was
a man with a big heart who cared for others and gave himself up completely for others. SJBDLS displayed
such zeal for service because he showed that he was ready to give everything up for the sake of helping
others. It was described in the LGP that Zeal for service was a whole-hearted giving of oneself for others
which was clearly demonstrated by SJBDLS.

Oratio Imperata on the Threat of the COVID-19 (CBCP)
God our Father,
we come to You in our need to ask Your protection
against the COVID-19 that has disturbed us
and claimed many lives.
We pray that You guide the people tasked to find cure
for this disease and to stem its transmission.
Protect the medical experts and healthcare personnel
that they may minister to the sick with competence and compassion.
We pray for those afflicted. May they be restored to health soon.
Protect those who care for them. Grant eternal rest to those who have died.
Give us grace in this trying time to work for the good of all and to help those in need.
We implore You to stop the spread of this virus and to save us from our fears.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son
who lives and reigns with You,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us!
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
