Luke 21:5-11

Date posted: November 27, 2018

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Luke 21:5-11
While some people were speaking about how the temple was adorned with costly stones and votive offerings, Jesus said, “All that you see here–the days will come when there will not be left a stone upon another stone that will not be thrown down.”
Then they asked him, “Teacher, when will this happen? And what sign will there be when all these things are about to happen?”
He answered, “See that you not be deceived, for many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and ‘The time has come.’ Do not follow them! When you hear of wars and insurrections, do not be terrified; for such things must happen first, but it will not immediately be the end.”
Then he said to them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.
There will be powerful earthquakes, famines, and plagues from place to place; and awesome sights and mighty signs will come from the sky.”

Reflection
In the Gospel, Jesus teaches us an important message on how there is an end to everything, no matter how beautiful or appealing material things may be. The day of Judgement is something that only God truly knows. However, we are reminded not to be terrified or be fixated on the apocalyptic signs of such events that would come to the world. We should be more dedicated in keeping our faith in the Lord in the midst of persecutions, false prophets and temptations, which will challenge and question our faith. Despite of all the possible tribulations that we may encounter, as long as we remain steadfast in our faith, God will always be with us. As said by the Apostle Paul, faith is one of the key attributes of being in eternal life. No matter what happens in the future of the world, be it earthquakes, famines, wars and more, if we embody Jesus’s example and persist in our faith, a life of comfort and happiness in the Kingdom of Heaven will seek us through.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows one to support and promote creative and holistic education…” Faith is the instrument of the Lord which nurtures our hope and desire to commit to a life of continuous education of spiritual growth. Jesus, as in the Gospel, heartened the disciples to utilize their faith as a means to promote personal learning of the values, attitude and knowledge needed as they fulfilled their role in accordance to the will of the Lord. In the present day, our faith in the Lord allows us to further encourage creative and holistic learning of not only practical perspectives, but also values and principles necessary for each of us to rise above the challenges, persecutions and trials that we may encounter in life. One way to live out this principle is by continuously being steadfast in our faith in God, as well as to participate in this type of education. Through this, we are able to deeply understand the purpose as to why creative and holistic education is a necessity to produce Lasallian rooted individuals.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, as Your beloved children, we surrender ourselves to You. Set us free from the fear of the unknown that underlies in our hearts, and help us overcome the persecutions and temptations that would surely challenge us as we continue on our journey of living out Your will. Even in the most perilous of encounters, we will strive to remain steadfast in our faith. We will also use this in order to support and promote holistic education that will enable each of us to develop the Lasallian values and principles to serve You. We offer to You, Lord God, all the glory and praises, and all that we may achieve through Your Name. We only humbly ask that when the time of Judgement comes, You, O Father, will be merciful and gracefully grant us the everlasting life. This we pray in the mighty Name of Jesus, Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
