Luke 9:46-50

Luke 9:46-50
An argument arose among them as to which one of them was the greatest. But Jesus, aware of their inner thoughts, took a little child and put it by his side, and said to them, ‘Whoever welcomes this child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me; for the least among all of you is the greatest.’ John answered, ‘Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he does not follow with us.’ But Jesus said to him, ‘Do not stop him; for whoever is not against you is for you.’

Reflection
This conversation occurred after Jesus told his disciples that He was going to be betrayed. Instead of pondering what has the Lord said to them, they began arguing among themselves which one among them should be seen the greatest that should lead when Jesus is gone. They were showing displeasing signs of ambition and how they never learned the act of humility not until Jesus’ death. The child in this gospel was a symbol God used to emphasized that small is beautiful. Not in all circumstances that the greatest is the most favorable one. An act, done with love and kindness, no matter how small and insignificant, is being seen and appreciated by God. Jesus is also not selective on who should be His followers for everyone is a daughter or son of God and He created no standards on such things for as long as a man is on the side of goodness, is on the side God. Are you the child or you are one of the disciples?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows one to judge and evaluate things in the light of the gospel.” Faith is the link between us mortals and God. In order for us to be able to live with God in the eternal life, we should put the gospel or the word of the Lord in our hearts. We should see the gospel as a source of light in the dark alleys of our life. Whatever we’re going through, we could always find the solution in our problems in the mighty words of God for he already knows the answer even before we open our mouth. The only thing God wanted us to do is to surrender everything to Him and have faith. Keeping in mind and heart that without God we are nothing is one step closer towards His unfailing love and fruitful promises.

Prayer
Almighty Father, there are times when we feel so full of ourselves and felt that we are far superior to others that we often forgot how to act with humility and faithfulness. These are the times when You always make a way to remind us that what we’re doing is not an act of your follower. Lord, as we pave our way into life, you never fail to make us realize that doing something out of pure kindness, love, justice and fairness, no matter how big or small it is, as long as it is done in Your Name, is considered good and a blessing. Now we realize that each of us is just one of your many followers, who are trying to emulate the innocence of a child to be able to see the true wonders of your love and sacrifice. We come with all of our baggage, selfishness and ignorance to You for we know that You will cleanse our hearts for we have faith in You. This we pray in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptiste de la Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
