Luke 9:51-56

Date posted: October 1, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Luke 9:51-56
When the days drew near for him to be received up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him; but the people would not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to bid fire come down from heaven and consume them?” But he turned and rebuked them. And they went on to another village.

Reflection
Are you surprised to see two of Jesus' disciples praying for the destruction of a Samaritan village? The gospel was about how Jesus was denied of hospitality by the Samaritans when he sent messengers. He was going up to Jerusalem, as the time of his passion was already drawing near. He was about to endure the scorn of the Jews. The gospel tells me to be patient and not to complain greatly. It tells me that I need to have tolerance and courtesy even to my enemies. I need to be patient especially when asking God for something, for he will give it if it is asked. I remember one time praying to him to allow me to pass the entrance test in our institute, I prayed and prayed until I finally received the student who passed the exams and I was happy that I was one of the few lucky students who passed the test. I pray for the guidance of God. I pray for the strength he will give me to endure everything and to accomplish anything.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows one to judge and evaluate things in the light of the gospel.” The Gospel teaches us to be patient. During his time’ our founder St. John Baptist De La Salle was patient to his brothers. He didn’t give up on the people he found on the street and on to the kids that they taught. He endured every hardship that went to their life and yet he didn’t lose any hope on God. Lasallians should always be patient as they always hope for the best thing to happen in their life and mission.
