Mark 1: 21-25

Date posted: January 14, 2020

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Mark 1: 21-25
Jesus came to Capernaum with his followers, and on the Sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught. The people
were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. In their synagogue
was a man with an unclean spirit; he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to
destroy us? I know who you are–the Holy One of God!” Jesus rebuked him and said, “Quiet! Come out of him!”

Reflection
The gospel depicts Jesus’ enemy, the ‘unclean spirit,’ who clearly recognizes Him as the Holy One who overcomes
what is contrary to God. Jesus is in agony until the end of the world, standing with us against all forms of addiction,
exploitation, violence and abuse. This tells us that we can shelter behind Him, and not become disheartened when evil seems to be triumphant. How do we face challenges against violence and abuse in our community?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…the communion in mission is a spirit that allows one to trust one another…” As individuals, we must learn how to go along fulfilling our mission as humans. To choose to work and do things in communion with others, respect and help proclaim each one’s endowment, because our actions are designed to complement each other. As Lasallians, doing all things in uplifting the virtues of Christ and St. John Baptist De La Salle make every action valid, sincere, and authentic. Through this, we will not only get to fulfill our mission, but we can also foster communion and solidarity.
