Mark 10:17-31

Gospel: Mark 10:17-31
As Jesus was setting out on a journey, a man ran up, knelt down before him, and asked him, “Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus answered him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good but God alone. You know the commandments: ‘You shall not kill; you shall not commit adultery; you shall not steal; you shall not bear false witness; you shall not defraud; honor your father and your mother.'” He replied and said to him, “Teacher, all of these I have observed from my youth.” Jesus, looking at him, loved him and said to him, “You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to (the) poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” At that statement his face fell, and he went away sad, for he had many possessions. Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, “How hard it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God!” The disciples were amazed at his words. So Jesus again said to them in reply, “Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to pass through (the) eye of (a) needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” They were exceedingly astonished and said among themselves, “Then who can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “For human beings it is impossible, but not for God. All things are possible for God.” Peter began to say to him, “We have given up everything and followed you.” Jesus said, “Amen, I say to you, there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands for my sake and for the sake of the gospel who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age: houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come.”

Reflection
In this gospel Jesus shows to us that we don’t need any wealth that we experience here in earth. We may have good clothing or money but if we don’t have God in our life, then our life is useless. We cannot follow him by our own because we are human and we meant to fail, but through God everything is possible. All the things that we have today we cannot bring in heaven. Then we bless others with what we have for the goodness of the Lord reflects in us who receive His word. Are there any hindrances that keep us from following God?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP explains spirit of faith (nurturing faith) by stating, “trust in God’s loving presence and providence when acting or discerning God’s will”. This explains that we must trust in God in everything because he has a purpose for us, we just have to wait for the time to come. Just like in the gospel, Jesus wants us to trust in him and give everything that keep us away from trusting and following him. We must follow God with all our hearts to have eternal life.

Prayer
Father God, thank you for everything that you’ve done for us. Thank you that you’ve given us another life to praise You. Help each and everyone of us to follow You all the time. Please help us. We cannot do this alone. Always remind us the commandments that you gave to us. And thank you for all the blessings that we have, help us to share our blessings to those who are in need. This we pray in Jesus name. Amen.

God of life and God of those who hope!
Listen to our prayer for the whole world:
For peace among all peoples,
For prosperity in all lands.
We pray to you that evil may be overcome
And that all wars may end.
We pray to You especially for the members
Of our Lasallian Family,
Who suffer from war, injustice and intolerance,
And for children and young people who are poor ad neglected.
We pray too, God, for peace in our lives;
In our towns, in our schools,
In our families and in our own hearts.
We pray for a peace that the world cannot give us.
We pray for a peace that will make us whole
And transform us into ambassadors of justice for Your sake.
Lord, give us Your peace! Amen.

St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
