Mark 1:21-28

Date posted: January 15, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Mark 1:21-28
Jesus came to Capernaum with his followers, and on the sabbath he entered the synagogue and taught. The people were astonished at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority and not as the scribes. In their synagogue was a man with an unclean spirit; he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are–the Holy One of God!” Jesus rebuked him and said, “Quiet! Come out of him!” The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out of him. All were amazed and asked one another, “What is this? A new teaching with authority. He commands even the unclean spirits and they obey him.” His fame spread everywhere throughout the whole region of Galilee.

Reflection
In the Gospel of Mark, it depicts to us that Jesus, the son of God has the authority to teach for he possesses truth and he carries the words from God, there’d be no lie, deception or error in his words. In the lines “The unclean spirit convulsed him and with a loud cry came out of him”, this gives us a perception that Jesus also has authority in his deeds that he is the creator and sustains all things. The winds and the waves would obey Him, as do the evil spirits which are are all a part of His creation. Jesus gives us the same authority where we surrender ourselves to Him, we also can cast out demons and speak truthfully about God. Jesus words will always make sense because Jesus’ words can make a difference in people’s lives.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…the communion in mission is a spirit that allows one to trust one another…” As a Lasallian, embodying the principle of communion in mission allows us to get to know people deeply. Though we are being spearheaded by one mission, it is inevitable for us to each have a unique God-given gift. In the process of enacting the mission, we are being called to show these gifts, which will work hand- in-hand to serve the mission well. Through communing because of a common goal, we get to discover and acknowledge the capabilities of each other, which will work for the betterment of delivering the mission.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, You have sent Your Son to redeem us all from our sins and for this, we are eternally grateful. Grant us unwavering faith in the words You have spoken out of Your love for us. Teach us to trust You the way you have entrusted Your beloved Son, Jesus, to us. All these we ask in Your most holy name, Amen.

Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de la Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
