Mark 12:38-44

Date posted: November 11, 2018

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Mark 12:38-44
In the course of his teaching Jesus said,”Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robes and accept greetings in the marketplaces, seats of honor in synagogues, and places of honor at banquets. They devour the houses of widows and, as a pretext, recite lengthy prayers. They will receive a very severe condemnation.” He sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums.
A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents.
Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, “Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood.”

Reflection
When applying this today, it goes without doubt that people nowadays are concerned with the image they wish to display to social media or reality and that includes religiousness. How does one judge such a thing? How do you know a bible verse caption or prayer is for appearance rather than genuine piety? The faith of Jesus isn’t a self absorbed faith. It isn’t about yourselves nor it is about ourselves. It’s sacrificial and about what we give to God.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…the spirit of faith is a spirit that allows one to believe that teaching is a vocation…” In relation to the gospel, generosity is a value that not everyone in the world possess. To be generous means sacrificing something for others even if giving it your all. Jesus is always with His people in their lowest meaning even if one is poor, with faith, one can give and be blessed. As Lasallians, we should be generous not only in the Church but everywhere and to everyone that we are willing to help whenever someone is in need.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank you for the wisdom and knowledge that you gave us to understand your words. We ask you Lord for your forgiveness to the sins that we made. Help us Lord God to have more trust on you and give everything for your glory. Help us also to be like the attitude shows by the poor widow that we will give everything to you from our hearts. Thank you Lord God for everything, we give you all the praises and glory in your name. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
