Mark 4:26-34

Date posted: February 1, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Mark 4:26-34
Jesus said to the crowd, “The kingdom of God is as if someone would scatter seed on the ground, and would sleep and rise night and day, and the seed would sprout and grow, he does not know how. The earth produces of itself, first the stalk, then the head, then the full grain in the head. But when the grain is ripe, at once he goes in with his sickle, because the harvest has come.” He also said, “With what can we compare the kingdom of God, or what parable will we use for it? It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth; yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes the greatest of all shrubs, and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade.” With many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear it; he did not speak to them except in parables, but he explained everything in private to his disciples.

Reflection
In the Gospel, the seeds would grow given the right conditions, that is, right amount of oxygen, water and proper temperature. It also shows us that growth is a long process. There is no short-cut. The reign of God, the Kingdom of God, is part of the long plan of God. God will only reign in our hearts if we are always communing with Him, purifying our thoughts, loving our enemies, etc. Do you know what’s missing why you are not experiencing spiritual maturity?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “Lasallian institutions must strive to develop among its members greater recognition of the realities of human suffering and the stewardship role that each shares in preserving the integrity of God’s creation and creating a humane and just society” (p.20-21). Being great is not being the first and not even being the best. But greatness can be measured by how much love we have put into our services. It is being sensitive to the realities of human suffering. Good citizenship is not pursuing one’s personal interest but theinterest of the whole society especially those experiencing difficulties in life.

Prayer
Loving Father, the world is being destroyed by seeds of violence and greed. Sometimes communities are asking for justice but Your Kingdom of justice and love grows slowly. Give us the seeds of faith and patience to wait for the unfolding of Your Kingdom. Have mercy on us. Heal the wounds of the community in Jolo, Sulu. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Your Son. Amen.
