Matthew 4:12-23

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy presence of God.

Matthew 4:12-23
When Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew to Galilee. He left Nazareth and went to live in Capernaum by the sea, in the region of Zebulun and Naphtali, that what had been said through Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled: Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali, the way to the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles, the people who sit in darkness have seen a great light, on those dwelling in a land overshadowed by death light has arisen. From that time on, Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen. He said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.” At once they left their nets and followed him. He walked along from there and saw two other brothers, James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat, with their father Zebedee, mending their nets. He called them, and immediately they left their boat and their father and followed him. He went around all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease and illness among the people.

Reflection
The gospel recounts the beginning of Jesus’ first public life in the Galilee. He started to call people to become fishers of men and preparing them for mission, which is spreading the Good News. Responding to the call of Jesus requires sacrifices. As Christians, we participate on this mission of Jesus as his disciples. How do we continue the mission of Jesus, spreading the Good News, in our daily life?

LGP states that, “…the communion in mission is a spirit that allows one to trust one another…” In relation to the gospel, we are called to be stewards of God in continuing its mission to its people. Like St. John Baptist De La Salle, he offer himself to serve the people who greatly in need by giving all his wealth and service to this people. As Lasallians, may we follow the footsteps of our founder and continue this wonderful mission.

Almighty, Ever-living God, the most Merciful and Compassionate,
we thank You for Creation and the life You have given us.

to encounter each other through Dialogue,
to reach mutual respect and reciprocal acceptance of each other,
and to break down the walls of division that stand
at the center of most misunderstandings and conflicts.
Make us instruments of Your Light, Love and Peace.
Guide us to walk always in Your Path and be a
Show us the way to Harmony and Unity to reach the fullness of human fraternity.
Give us the wisdom to discern the Truth and to freely choose what is right and just
to make this world a better place to live in.
Together, we ask You for the wisdom and the courage to fulfil Your Will that all may be ONE.
