Date posted: November 21, 2018

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Holy Gospel Saint Luke 19,11-28
While people were listening to Jesus speak, he proceeded to tell a parable because he was near Jerusalem and they thought that the Kingdom of God would appear there immediately. So he said, “A nobleman went off to a distant country to obtain the kingship for himself and then to return. He called ten of his servants and gave them ten gold coins and told them, ‘Engage in trade with these until I return.’ His fellow citizens, however, despised him and sent a delegation after him to announce, ‘We do not want this man to be our king.’ But when he returned after obtaining the kingship, he had the servants called, to whom he had given the money, to learn what they had gained by trading. The first came forward and said, ‘Sir, your gold coin has earned ten additional ones.’ He replied, ‘Well done, good servant! You have been faithful in this very small matter; take charge of ten cities.’
Then the second came and reported, ‘Your gold coin, sir, has earned five more.’ And to this servant too he said, ‘You, take charge of five cities.’
Then the other servant came and said, ‘Sir, here is your gold coin; I kept it stored away in a handkerchief, for I was afraid of you, because you are a demanding person; you take up what you did not lay down and you harvest what you did not plant.’ He said to him, ‘With your own words I shall condemn you, you wicked servant. You knew I was a demanding person, taking up what I did not lay down and harvesting what I did not plant; Why did you not put my money in a bank? Then on my return I would have collected it with interest.’
And to those standing by he said, ‘Take the gold coin from him and give it to the servant who has ten.’
But they said to him, ‘Sir, he has ten gold coins.’
‘I tell you, to everyone who has, more will be given, but from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away. Now as for those enemies of mine who did not want me as their king, bring them here and slay them
before me.'”
After he had said this, he proceeded on his journey up to Jerusalem.

Reflection
This Gospel focuses on how we, the children of God should be good stewards of all the things that he gave us including our talents, money, and knowledge. Being a good steward means using the things that God has given us for the glory of God as this can also be an act of humility that we are truly grateful for what He has blessed us with. The two servants were able to use the coins entrusted to them wisely and they were able to grow it more. This also happens to the many blessings that God had given us that when we use it wisely we will be able to grow as a person who unconditionally serves God. The two servants in the story have no knowledge that their faithfulness will be rewarded but, because they submitted themselves to their master, they obeyed him and did what was needed to be done. From this, it can be determined that being a good steward of God is not about the rewards that we will receive if we obey Him, it is simply because we choose to be faithful without trading for anything in return.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “Zeal is the enthusiastic and total gift of self for the sake of the mission expressed in such qualities as gratuity and generosity”, creativity and fortitude, compassion and commitment…” In relation to the gospel, our talents serve as the medium to accomplish one of our missions in life, and that is to serve our community without forgetting that we have all these gifts to serve and glorify Him. We are given these talents to use them as a vessel of service to help other people. As Lasallians, we can be the instruments of our community to use these talents to glorify God and be of service.

Prayer
Dear Heavenly Father,
I want to thank you for the talents you have given me. I know that every man is gifted with different abilities and that every good thing comes from you. Show me how best to use the time and talents you have given me. Help me to focus on my gifts and not my shortcomings. Move my heart to be motivated to do what I can with what you have given me. I want to grow in a positive direction and I need you to keep me on the right tract to do this. Help me to use all my opportunities wisely, that I may share, through service to others, the good gifts I have received from you. So, I stand before you in complete humility. I bow before you and present all that I have back to you. Use my talents for your glory, Lord. I know if I give all I have to you, it will be the wisest investment a person could make. Amen.
