DLSMHSI welcomes Professor Dr. Charles Robert Horsburgh from Boston University, School of Public Health, Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Global Health and Medicine, United States of America, on January 9, 2023.

The visit coincides with discussing the possible Fogarty grant application for DLSMHSI.

The meeting was witnessed by the Academic deans and administrators and the DLSMHSI Research team led by VCR Dr. Charles Yu, Clinical Research Site Leader Dr. Melchor Frias, and Clinical Research Coordinator Dr. Maricel Gler, who have formalized various research engagements, which held at Narra Hall.

Vice Chancellor for Research, Dr. Charles Yu, presented the completed and current research projects internationally and locally. During the discussion, Dr. Horsburgh discussed the possible proposal for the Fogarty grant for DLSMHSI to provide training programs, a combination of a degree program, short-term or long-term programs for the next generation of researchers, assist in designing research projects, and so on. As of now, the grant is in its assessment phase and in the process of developing the content of the grant.

 

 

Dr. Horsburgh is on a courtesy call with DLSMHSI President Dr. Antonio B. Ramos.

Dr. Horsburgh said, “I am excited because I know De La Salle. Your team did a wonderful job. And we want to continue.”

Dr. Tony said, “We welcome any partnership because it is the way to grow. I welcome this initiative, and when Mel told me, I said of course. We are thankful for this opportunity to develop new scientists for the future.”

In line with this, on January 11 at De La Salle Villarosa Convention Hall, TB HIV Research Unit organized a multidisciplinary conference discussing more on pediatric Tuberculosis, the risk of developing Tuberculosis, and the new treatment regimens for Tuberculosis.

With guest speakers; Dr. Charles Robert Horsburgh – Professor, Boston University, School of Public Health, Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Global Health and Medicine, United States of America to talk about “New Treatment Regimens for Drug-Susceptible and Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis”; and Dr. Leonardo Martinez – Assistant Professor, Boston University, School of Public Health, Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Global Health and Medicine, United States of America on topic of “Challenging Paradigms in Pediatric Tuberculosis: From the Risk of Developing Disease to Where Transmission Occurs.”
