DLSHSI fêtes 241 new Lasallian doctors

Two hundred forty-one members of DLSHSI’s Medicine Class 2018 have finally earned the right to append those coveted two letters to their names as they finally became colleagues to their mentors during the College of Medicine’s commencement ceremonies on June 27, 2018. This class proudly produced eight recipients of Latin Honors — two Magna Cum Laude and six
Cum Laude.

Amid best wishes from their mentors, family and friends as they move on to the next chapter of their professional development as doctors, the new Lasallians MDs were fêted by the Lasallian community that has nurtured them as they conquered challenges after challenges in pursuit of their dream to become doctors. Among those who were present to bid them well was their renowned co-alumnus, Dr. Jaime Alfonso Aherrera, FAMP, FPCP, FPCC.

He readily reminded his new colleagues that the quest does not end by appending the initials MD to their names. From here
on, they have to pursue further training so that they can be the best in the field of medicine where they want to make their mark, he stressed. He also shared these eight lessons he learned in his young career:
1. Be the best version of yourself.
2. Figure out who you are and do not compare yourself to others.
3. Comfort your patients and their family.
4. Learn as much as you can from every opportunity.
5. Learn to fail or you will fail to learn. Remember, failure is just a bruise, not a tattoo.
6. Take time to pamper yourself every now and then.
7. Give back to your family.
8. Follow Dr. Romeo Ariniego’s example – pay it forward.
