John 20:19-23

Date posted: May 31, 2020

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

John 20:19-23
On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were, for
fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he
had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the
Lord. Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I send you.” And
when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the
sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.”

Reflection
The gospel tells us that we must allow “peace” to enter our heart and our mind. This is not just a word but
a person, Jesus Christ. It is the constant promise of Jesus to his followers. It is a gift that nobody can take
away from us. Give time each day to pray and thank God for this gift of peaceful life. How can we be a
community that advocates for peace?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “Zeal is the expression of faith in service to human need.” In the gospel, Jesus shows us
selfless love and mercy and calls us to believe and keep the faith until the end. As we close this month of
Mary, may we follow her example of total abandonment when she said, “Let it be done to me according to
your word.” That moment in her life meant a lifetime of service to humanity. As Lasallians, we should
continuously believe in God and to believe means to commit to a lifetime of service.

Oratio Imperata Against the COVID-19
God our Father, we come to You in our need to ask Your protection
against the COVID-19 that has disturbed us and claimed many lives.
We pray that You guide the people tasked
to find cure for this disease and to stem its transmission.
Protect the medical experts and healthcare personnel
that they may minister to the sick with competence and compassion.
We pray for those afflicted, may they be restored to health soon.
Protect those who care for them.
Grant eternal rest to those who have died.
Give us grace in this trying time to work for the good of all and to help those in need.
We implore You to stop the spread of this virus and to save us from our fears.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son
who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God forever and ever. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us!
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us!
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us!
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
