John 21:20-22

Date posted: May 30, 2020

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

John 21:20-22
Peter turned and saw the disciple following whom Jesus loved, the one who had also reclined upon his
chest during the supper and had said, “Master, who is the one who will betray you?” When Peter saw him,
he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about him?” Jesus said to him, “What if I want him to remain until I come?
What concern is it of yours? You follow me.”

Reflection
In today’s gospel, Peter perceives the disciple whom Jesus loved, suggesting either his jealousy or the
need to compare. Christ’s connection with the disciples is deeply personal; each has a mission; each has
a task. When we compare, we become distracted and jealous with others’ accomplishments. “You follow
me” said Jesus to Peter, indicating that it is unnecessary to compare and that we have our mission to fulfill
for Jesus Christ, and no one can take our place. What are the things that can distract us from following
Jesus?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “Zeal is the expression of faith in service to human need.” To be a zealous Lasallian is to
be willing to give oneself to the service of others, in gratuity and generosity. We are born with talents and
skills which make us distinct from our fellow brothers and sisters, and these graces should be
wholeheartedly appreciated and be utilized in helping others who are desperate for our need. “Compassion
and commitment” – are two characteristics that should define the culture and spirit of Lasallian students.

Oratio Imperata Against the COVID-19
God our Father, we come to You in our need to ask Your protection
against the COVID-19 that has disturbed us and claimed many lives.
We pray that You guide the people tasked
to find cure for this disease and to stem its transmission.
Protect the medical experts and healthcare personnel
that they may minister to the sick with competence and compassion.
We pray for those afflicted, may they be restored to health soon.
Protect those who care for them.
Grant eternal rest to those who have died.
Give us grace in this trying time to work for the good of all and to help those in need.
We implore You to stop the spread of this virus and to save us from our fears.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son
who lives and reigns with You, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God forever and ever. Amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us!
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
