Luke 16, 19-31

Date posted: March 4, 2021

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Luke 16, 19-31
Jesus said to the Pharisees: “There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen and dined sumptuously
each day. And lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, who would gladly have eaten his fill of
the scraps that fell from the rich man’s table. Dogs even used to come and lick his sores. When man died, he was carried
away by angels to the bosoms of Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried, and from the netherworld, where he was
in torment, he raised his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he cried out, ‘Father Abraham, have pity
on me. Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am suffering torment in these flames.’
Abraham replied, ‘My child, remember that you received what was good during your lifetime while Lazarus likewise received
what was bad; but now he is comforted here, whereas you tormented. Moreover, between us and you a great chasm is
established to prevent anyone from crossing who might wish to go from our side to yours or from your side to ours.’ He said,
‘Then I beg you, father send him to my father’s house, for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they too come
to this place of torment.’ But Abraham replied. ‘They have Moses and the prophets. Let them listen to them.’ He said, ‘Oh no,
Father Abraham, but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ Then Abraham said, ‘If they will not listen to
Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.”

Reflection
The Gospel tell us that we should not lose hope in God whatever challenges we are facing right now because God will reward
those who trust in him. Lazarus did not lose hope because he sets his eyes on the treasure that God will reward him in
heaven, unlike the rich man that lost his sight of God because he was being pre-occupied by his happiness towards his
material wealth and that he forgot the needs of those around him. In God’s eyes, those who hold possessively of what they
have, will lose it all at the end, while those who shares generously will receive more than they gave away. Do I still find true joy
and lasting treasure in God’s presence?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, Zeal is the active expression of our faith and the application of the gospel through service. Basically, it means
that “Think less of yourself and think more and what you can do to others.” As Lasallian, we must think of ourselves as God’s
instrument of grace by helping those who are in need by sharing the blessings that we receive. Through zeal, let us allow
ourselves to carry out God’s saving plan by making the world a better place.

MISSION PRAYER 2021 Year of Missio Ad Gentes CBCP
God, our loving Father, You sent your Son into the world to proclaim the Good News of Salvation to all: to sinners, the poor,
oppressed, the sick, the abandoned and neglected. He gave His life on the Cross for us and rose again to new life to redeem
us and reconcile us with you. You sent Your Holy Spirit to the Apostles to continue the work of Your Son and to lead all to
salvation. We thank you, Father, for bringing us from darkness into light. Through Your loving plan, 500 years ago,
missionaries came to our land to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus, Your Son, to our ancestors that made us your people and the
Church. The gift of faith has accompanied us through both darkness and lights, defeats and victories of our history as your
people. Our faith has become for us true light that shines in the darkness. Renew in us the grace of your Spirit that impels us
to be witnesses of Jesus, Your Son, to a world broken by greed, violence, injustice, sickness and suffering. May our faith bring
us to unity as your children to care for, and love one another. May the Holy Spirit empower us to be proclaimers of the Good
News to our brothers and sisters in Asia, and to all nations. Give us the sincere desire to help others to come to faith in the
Lord Jesus to share in your joy and life. May the Blessed Mother, the Star of Evangelization, accompany us and pray for us as
we live and share our faith with others. May our strong love and devotion to her as our Mahal na Ina form us to be true
disciples and witnesses of Jesus to all, always ready to be sent, and to be obedient to whatever Jesus asks of us. We ask this
through Jesus Christ, Your
Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God forever and ever. Amen.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
