Luke 9:51-62

Date posted: June 30, 2019

Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Luke 9:51-62
Samaritan Opposition
51  As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven, Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.
52  And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him;
53  but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem.
54  When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them [a] ?”
55  But Jesus turned and rebuked them.
56  Then he and his disciples went to another village.

The Cost of Following Jesus
57  As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, “I will follow you wherever you go.”
58  Jesus replied, “Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
59  He said to another man, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.”
60  Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”
61  Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.”
62  Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

Reflection
There are different types of followers, some are unable, others think of their own first, and others look back at their past and never leaves there. When you follow Jesus, you leave everything and never look back. Connecting the two stories, Jesus was ready to leave everything for us, He didn’t look back. Instead, He faced what God told Him to do for us to be saved. Be a true follower of Christ that you can leave everything behind and trusting Him wholly and selflessly on what He has planned for us.

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, “…reverence for life nurtures belief in the living presence of God in our world. Having faith in the Lord makes us trust the path He has planned for us. Reverence for Life makes us brave to face any trial beneath us because our faith in the Lord is bigger than anything. It requires one to have a loving relationship with God and see the world with faith and belief. Trust the Lord and have faith in Him wholly, for sure, everything will go as planned.

Prayer
Lord, there are and will be days where I will doubt You and Your works, Your plan for me and there would be times wherein my faith will weaken. In these days, and in most of the days, please help me to trust You. Give us the peace of mind. Teach us to trust in You. teach us to be your instrument without any doubts in You. Give us the mind to think clearly and to know what we truly believe in times of doubt. Be our Light in the darkness. Give us the heart to endure all pain life would be giving us. help us to never look back when we follow You. Help us to respect our life by believing in You. Help us to have a heart as big as yours, always willing to leave everything for the sake of others. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
Our Lady of the Star, pray for us.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
