Matthew 15,1-2.10-14

Date posted: August 8, 2023

August 8, 2023 (Tuesday)
Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 15,1-2.10-14
Some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They do not wash (their) hands when they eat a meal. He summoned the crowd and said to them, “Hear and understand. It is not what enters one’s mouth that defiles that person; but what comes out of the mouth is what defiles one.” Then his disciples approached and said to him, “Do you know that the Pharisees took offense when they heard what you said?” He said in reply, “Every plant that my heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted. Let them alone; they are blind guides (of the blind). If a blind person leads a blind person, both will fall into a pit.”

Reflection:
The gospel tells us about what is pure and impure. As Filipinos, we are accustomed to the different traditions that we inherit from our ancestors. But the gospel reminded us to be vigilant and contemplate deeper on the meaning of such customs. Let us remember that God already gave His teachings through Jesus Christ which is sufficient and necessary for our salvation. Let us ask ourselves, how do we consider God’s word in our life? Lasallian Guiding Principle:
LGP states that “the spirit of faith is a “spirit that allows one to search for God’s will in order to carry out his saving plan.” As Lasallians, we know that for us to be able to fully grasp the mystery of God’s salvation, we must have a strong faith in Him and it entails actions. Prayer:
Synod on Synodality Prayer

We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name.
With You alone to guide us, Make Yourself at home in our hearts;
Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it.
We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder.
Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions.
Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right.
All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever. Amen.

St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.

St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
