Matthew 15,1-2.10-14

August 9, 2023 (Wednesday)
Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel: Matthew 15,1-2.10-14
At that time Jesus withdrew to the region of Tyre and Sidon.
And behold, a Canaanite woman of that district came and called out, “Have pity on me, Lord, Son of David! My daughter is tormented by a demon.” But he did not say a word in answer to her. His disciples came and asked him, “Send her away, for she keeps calling out after us.”
He said in reply, “I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
But the woman came and did him homage, saying, “Lord, help me.”
He said in reply, “It is not right to take the food of the children and throw it to the dogs.”
She said, “Please, Lord, for even the dogs eat the scraps that fall from the table of their masters.”
Then Jesus said to her in reply, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be done for you as you wish.” And her daughter was healed from that hour.

Reflection:
This gospel talks about faith. The woman in the gospel knew that Jesus is the only one who could help her and she believed in it. Therefore, she showed great persistence and she did not allow the disciples’ irritation or Jesus’ offhand remark to put her off. In our life, we will face many hardships and it weakens our faith. But the gospel reminded us to keep the faith and keep on praying because God is listening and waiting for the perfect time to bestow on us the blessings that we are asking for. How far can we hold on to our faith? (DELA PAZ, AUBREY JAE P., COLLEGE OF REHABILITATION SCIENCES – OT Student, 2020)

Lasallian Guiding Principle:
LGP states that “the spirit of faith is a “spirit that allows one to search for God’s will in order to carry out his saving plan.” As Lasallians, we must have a strong faith in God for He has a plan for all of us in spite of many challenges that come along our journey. Let us allow ourselves to be like the woman in the gospel who holds firm in her faith in Jesus. (DE GUIA JENIC S. CAMPUS MINISTRY AND CHAPLAINCY – Lasallian Mission Minister, 2023)

Prayer:
Synod on Synodality Prayer

We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name.
With You alone to guide us, Make Yourself at home in our hearts;
Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it.
We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder.
Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions.
Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right.
All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever. Amen.

St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
