Matthew 9,9-13

Date posted: September 20, 2022

September 21, 2022 (Wednesday)
Let us all remember that we are in the Holy Presence of God.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Matthew 9,9-13
As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax office; and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him. And as he sat at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat down with Jesus and his disciples. And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, `I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Reflection
The gospel tells us that God looks at the heart and not at the appearance of a man he declared (1 Samuel 16:7). What is
God’s vocation for you? God has a plan for us. He has a calling, a vocation intended for each of us. In the gospel we are told that each person is given gifts that are specific to the vocation to which we were called. Will I answer God’s call?

Lasallian Guiding Principle
LGP states that, the spirit of faith is a “spirit that allows one to judge and evaluate things in the light of the gospel.” LGP states that, the spirit of faith invites us always to search for God’s will. Basically, this involves searching for the best way to carry out God’s saving plan. (Br. Alvaro Rodriguez-Echevarria, FSC). God’s saving plan is the integral salvation and liberation of all, and especially of those who experience the greatest level of need.

Prayer
Synod on Synodality Prayer
We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name.
With You alone to guide us, Make Yourself at home in our hearts;
Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it.
We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder.
Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions.
Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right.
All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever.
Amen.
St. John Baptist de La Salle, pray for us.
St. Miguel Febres Cordero, pray for us.
Live Jesus in our hearts, forever!
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
