College of Medicine Dean wins the Most Outstanding Pediatrician Award 2015The Philippine Pediatric Society, Inc. (PPS) named College of Medicine Dean Madeleine Grace M. Sosa as 2015 Most Outstanding Pediatrician. PPS Southern Tagalog Chapter (PPS STC) noted that among Dr. Sosa’s significant contributions to the welfare and advancement in pediatrics were her advocacy in childhood TB, the presentation of the PPS STC’s pediatric research papers in international conventions, her efforts in the creation of Miguel Febres Neuroscience Complex in the City of Dasmarinas, and her creation of neurodevelopmental modules for parents, teachers, and doctors who care for children with neurodevelopmental problems (Cheers! for our back to back PPS Awards for 2016).Hats off, Dr. Sosa!
Faculty members share scholarly expertise in international conference and national journalCollege of Medical Laboratory Science Dean Fedelyn P. Estrella was invited as resource speaker on Biosafety and Dual Use Research during the NCT CBRN Asia Pacific Conference on March 15-17, 2016 in Seoul, South Korea.Dr. Alely S. Reyes, faculty of College of Nursing, published her research “Understanding Philippine Partner Violence from the Perspective of Cavitenas” in the Philippine Journal of Psychiatry.
College of Medical Laboratory Science hosts the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists (PAMET) Cavite Chapter Scientific SeminarThe College of Medical Laboratory Science (CMLS) hosted the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists (PAMET) Cavite Chapter Scientific Seminar on March 18, 2016 at the De La Salle Villarosa Convention Hall.The event was attended by professional medical technologists in the entire province of Cavite and selected students of CMLS.
RPAMDLS releases the results of the computer use surveyThe Romeo P. Ariniego, MD Library Services has recently concluded its survey of computer usage among onsite library users and faculty members in February 2016. Key findings of the survey were as follows:

  • while majority of the respondents were PC users, most of them expressed interest in learning how to use Mac and preference for Mac computers to be available in the library
  • the library ranked second among the places where onsite library respondents use computers while third among faculty respondents
  • the top 4 issues encountered by the respondents when using computers in the library were availability of computers, hardware speed, internet connection, and security against virus, malware and file crash
  •  the availability of self-service printing was preferred by most of the respondents
  • the onsite unstructured survey revealed that majority of the respondents preferred Mac to be  the computer brand available in the library

The results of the survey shall be used as basis for developing the multimedia service of the library for the benefit of its users. Big thanks to all the survey respondents for participating!

Updates from the Tenth Academic Operations Committee (VCA Council) Meeting held on March 17, 2016

  1. Groundbreaking ceremony of DLSHSI-Mercury Drug College of Pharmacy Building on March 21, 2016 at 10:00am.
  2. 31st Philippine Chemistry Congress with the theme “Chemistry Beyond Borders: Blurring Traditional  Boundaries on April 13-15, 2016 to be held at Iloilo Grand Hotel, Iloilo City. Fifteen faculty members and three students from the Department of Chemistry, College of Humanities and Sciences shall attend the congress.
  3. Library summer hours schedule and annual inventory. The Office of the Director for Romeo P. Ariniego, MD Library Services shall release a memo to the academic community regarding the new schedule starting April 4, 2016. The annual library inventory is set on May 10-18, 2016.
  4. Awarding of graduation honor cards for outstanding students of College of Medicine.
  5. Commencement Exercises 2016. The Undergraduate Commencement Exercises shall take place on April 27, 2016. Guest speaker is Mr. Mike Enriquez of GMA 7. College of Medicine Commencement Exercises is scheduled on April 28, 2016. Mr. Anthony Pangilinan of TV 5 is the guest speaker. The assembly time for both programs shall be at 3:00pm while the processional shall start at4:00pm.
