DLSHSI hosts eLearning Summit 2016The eLearning Summit, held on July 26, 2016 at the De La Salle Villarosa Convention Hall, gathered educators from De La Salle Philippines schools and movers from the technology and education sectors to share their knowledge and experiences on integrating technology in learning. It provided a venue for the DLSHSI community to learn and share ideas on how technology affects learners and how it could transform learning.Dr. Michael Lawenko from De La Salle Health Sciences Institute College of Medicine shared the College’s experience in using Moodle as a learning management system. Ms. Jenielyn Padernal  from De La Salle University-Dasmarinas talked about how technology is integrated in the classroom. Ms. Emelita Baylon presented best practices in blended learning and discussed how they do it in De La Salle Santiago Zobel. Mr. Giovanni Gil Abaquin discussed technology solutions from Smart to educate Filipinos and uplift their lives. Ms. Maleng Raysag shared how Apple supports education through its products and applications. Mr. Herald Uy discussed solutions from Google to enable an inclusive e-learning environment. Mr. Ricson Singson Que from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde talked about the impact of technology to education. Mr. Rogelio B. De La Cruz, Jr. presented De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s Benildean Borderless Education and the role of technology to this program. Finally, Mr. Carlos Joaquin Subido, MBA shared how Quipper helps schools to provide an e-learning environment through its content and system.The event was made possible in cooperation with the Academics Division and the Administration and Finance Division through the Information and Communication Technology Department.

Estrella of the College of Medical Laboratory Science (CMLS) has been accepted to attend the Advanced Biosafety Officers Training Course sponsored by US Dept. of State Biosecurity Engagement Program to be held on July 18-29, 2016 in Manila.Mr. Jomel B. Vasquez, a faculty member from the CMLS, was granted the “Young Investigator Award” during the presentation of his research “In Vitro Screening of Rosemarinus officinalis Linn Family (Lamiaceae) Antibacterial and Anti beta Lactamase Against Selected Pathogenic Microorganisms” at Hotel Yellow Pagoda, Kathmandu, Nepal on July 1, 2016.

Library reports its annual usage statisticsLibrary Director Efren M. Torres, Jr. shared the annual usage statistics of the library for SY 2015-2016. A total of 156,287 library visits were logged. This is 62% more than last school year’s figures. BSRT students were the top visitors. Medicine and BSPT students were the top borrowers of books while BS Pharmacy students were the top borrowers of journals. Books were circulated 19,141 times while journals were borrowed 420 times. A total of 2,260 discussion room reservations were received.
